NPP to Monitor NDC’s Commitments to Ghanaians
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director for the Bawumia Campaign Team, has pledged that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will ensure the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) fulfills its promises to the people of Ghana.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, March 10, 2025, Aboagye emphasized the critical role of the opposition in holding the government accountable.
“We believe that for each of the things that the NDC as a party promised the people and each of the promises and pledges that they made… they must fulfill that promise. Our job as an opposition party is to work with them to ensure they keep each of their promises,” Aboagye stated.

Key Promises NPP Expects NDC to Fulfill
Aboagye highlighted several major commitments made by the NDC, particularly in relation to tax policies. He outlined specific pledges the government made and called for immediate action in the upcoming budget statement.
1. Cancellation of the Emission Tax
The NPP expects the Finance Minister to announce the removal of the controversial Emission Tax, which was introduced to curb carbon emissions but has faced criticism for increasing the cost of living.
2. Abolition of the COVID-19 Levy
Another major promise was the cancellation of the COVID-19 levy, a tax introduced during the pandemic to support economic recovery but has remained in place long after the crisis.
3. Removal of the Betting Tax
The NDC previously assured the youth that the betting tax would be abolished. The NPP is keen on ensuring this commitment is honored.
4. Scrapping of the E-Levy
The controversial Electronic Levy (E-Levy), which faced strong opposition before its implementation, is another tax the NDC promised to remove. Aboagye insisted that the government must follow through on this pledge.
NPP’s Approach: Accountability Without Disruption
While stressing the importance of keeping the NDC accountable, Aboagye reassured Ghanaians that the NPP would not resort to the disruptive tactics previously employed by the opposition.
“But we are not going to be disruptive like they did to us,” he noted.
Instead, the NPP aims to constructively engage with the government to ensure promises are delivered effectively for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
Conclusion: A Call for Transparency and Action
As Ghana awaits the NDC’s budget announcement, the opposition remains vigilant in ensuring transparency and accountability. Will the government deliver on its promises? The NPP has made it clear that they will not let the NDC off the hook.
