The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has completed critical maintenance on its regional pipeline system, restoring gas transportation services across Ghana, Togo, and Benin ahead of schedule. This achievement underscores WAPCoโs commitment to ensuring a reliable energy supply in the region.
Maintenance Work Progress and Timeline
Last week, WAPCo announced that 70% of its maintenance work had been completed, bringing the company closer to resuming gas supply to Tema. The project, which began on February 3, 2025, was initially expected to conclude by March 2, 2025. However, thanks to the teamโs dedication, the work was finalized ahead of time.
The four-week maintenance project involved:
- Offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection.
- Subsea valve replacements.
- Essential repairs across multiple locations in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
To facilitate the process, WAPCo temporarily shut down pipeline laterals into Cotonou (Benin), Lomรฉ (Togo), and Tema (Ghana). Despite the complexity of the operation, the company ensured the work was completed efficiently and safely.
Leadership and Team Effort
WAPCoโs Managing Director, Michelle Burkett, praised the team for their hard work and professionalism.
โI want to congratulate every member of our team for their dedication and professionalism. This was a complex project, and your hard work, even in the face of challenges, made it a success. While some countries experienced temporary disruptions due to the shutdown of the laterals, our teams worked tirelessly to ensure that maintenance was carried out swiftly and safely. The results speak for themselves, and I couldnโt be prouder of what weโve achieved,โ she stated.
Gratitude to Stakeholders
WAPCo also expressed appreciation to the governments of Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, and Benin, as well as maritime and regulatory authorities, customers, shippers, gas off-takers, host communities, shareholders, and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation during the maintenance period.
WAPCoโs Commitment to Reliable Energy Supply
With the completion of this project, WAPCo reaffirms its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient gas transportation services. The company plays a vital role in the regionโs energy sector, ensuring that businesses and households have access to the energy they need to thrive.
