Stonebwoy, a Ghanaian reggae/dancehall musician, has responded critically to Gomski’s recent assertion that the dancehall genre is a problem affecting the Ghanaian music industry. Gomski, whose real name is Ike Otoo Arhin and who serves as the manager for the band R2bees, made this comment during an interview with 3Music last week. In a discussion on “The Big Conversation” on 3Music on November 16, 2024, Stonebwoy described Gomski’s remarks as “irresponsible,” urging him to retract his statement.

Stonebwoy highlighted Gomski’s position as Mugeez’s manager, acknowledging Mugeez’s prominence and respect within the Ghanaian music scene. He deemed Gomski’s comments as careless, emphasizing that retracting them would benefit the industry.
“I recently returned from a performance in Ivory Coast, where I put in great effort to promote Ghana on every stage I perform,” Stonebwoy stated. “The best thing that could happen to Ghanaian music is dancehall.”
He further asserted that he would not permit anyone to disparage the dancehall genre, citing his significant investment of time and resources in it. “This music originated from Black culture. I have invested money in my craft and studied it academically, so I won’t let someone who hasn’t contributed criticize dancehall music,” he added. “I also have popular Afrobeat tracks. In fact, the dancehall genre features the most collaborations.”
