Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has appealed to disgruntled members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain patient and trust President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment decisions. This call comes amid rising dissatisfaction among party members who feel that the NDC has capable individuals who should be considered for key positions.
Some party members have raised concerns over the appointment of individuals with ties to the opposition, citing the recent selection of the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as an example. These concerns have sparked debates within the party, with many questioning the direction of Mahama’s leadership.
Shamima Muslim Addresses Concerns on Citi Breakfast Show
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, February 27, Shamima Muslim acknowledged the growing concerns among NDC members. She emphasized the importance of open dialogue and urged party members to trust the process.
“There is an acknowledgment of those sentiments. There will never be a disrespect to the sentiments. But there is also an openness in allowing people to express themselves so we can explain some of the reasons where required,” she stated.
Defending Mahama’s Leadership and Appointments
Shamima Muslim defended President Mahama’s choices, highlighting his deep connection to the party’s grassroots and his extensive experience in governance. She reminded party members of Mahama’s journey from assemblyman to president, underscoring his understanding of grassroots politics.
“President John Dramani Mahama has done more work than anybody in his party, consistently over the period. During the electioneering period, he moved around more than anyone. When he visits these spaces, he speaks multiple times a day, so if there is anyone who truly understands grassroots politics, it is someone who started as an assemblyman and rose to the presidency,” she explained.
A Call for Patience and Trust
Shamima Muslim urged NDC members to give the president time to implement his vision. She noted that it has only been 50 days since Mahama assumed office and assured party members that his long-term plans would soon become evident.
“So, there is never a feeling of disconnection from the real sentiment on the ground. If we just give it time—it’s been just 50 days—in the fullness of time, you will see what he intends to do, and the signs are already there,” she added.
Reassurance for NDC Members
Her remarks reassured NDC members, encouraging them to trust President Mahama’s leadership and commitment to party unity. She emphasized that Mahama’s decisions are guided by his extensive experience and deep understanding of the party’s needs.
