Mahama Government to Strengthen Free SHS Policy – Dr Ato Forson
The Finance Minister-designate, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s commitment to sustaining and improving the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by the previous Akufo-Addo government.
This assurance follows President John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 campaign promise to enhance the policy rather than abolish it, emphasizing its importance for Ghanaian students.
During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 13, Dr Forson expressed strong support for the initiative and aligned with President Mahama’s vision to ensure the policy thrives.
“My party’s position on Free SHS has been well articulated by H.E. President Mahama. We do not intend to cancel Free SHS. President Mahama has said the Free SHS has come to stay,” Dr Forson stated.
He underscored that the President’s public assurance is a clear indication of the administration’s resolve to maintain and strengthen the program, highlighting its impact on access to education nationwide.
“You have assurance from the highest level of government to preserve the policy,” he added, reinforcing the administration’s focus on delivering accessible and quality education for all Ghanaian students.
Mahama’s Vision for Education
The Mahama government’s stance underscores a commitment to continuity and improvement, aiming to build a stronger foundation for the Free SHS policy to address challenges and ensure long-term success.
