Minority to Closely Examine 2025 Budget for National Interest
The Member of Parliament for Ofoase/Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has reaffirmed the Minority’s dedication to thoroughly scrutinizing the 2025 national budget to ensure it delivers tangible benefits to Ghanaians.
Speaking ahead of the anticipated budget presentation by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Oppong Nkrumah emphasized Parliament’s crucial role in evaluating government policies, commitments, and fiscal strategies.
Parliament’s Duty to Assess and Hold Government Accountable
In a press release, the former Minister of Information underscored that Parliament is tasked with assessing government programs and their corresponding budgets to guarantee effectiveness and sustainability.
“Our job as Parliament is to examine the commitments and programs and scrutinize their budgets. We are here to assess, make recommendations, and ultimately approve policies and the national budget,” he stated.
Experience and Feedback to Guide Budget Evaluation
Oppong Nkrumah highlighted that the Minority will leverage its governance experience, past lessons, and feedback from constituents to ensure a comprehensive budget review.
“We will bring to bear the knowledge we’ve acquired in government, the lessons from what went right and wrong in our era, and the feedback from our constituents in our assessment and approvals.”
Transitioning from Rhetoric to Practical Governance
Stressing the importance of moving from political promises to actionable governance, Oppong Nkrumah expressed hope that the 2025 budget would address Ghana’s pressing economic challenges.
“It’s good that, finally, propaganda is making way for governance programs that can respond to the outstanding challenges our people face. We in the Minority will do our part to help these programs succeed for the people of Ghana.”
Anticipation Builds Ahead of Budget Presentation
As Ghana awaits the 2025 budget presentation, the Minority’s commitment to a rigorous review signals a crucial phase of parliamentary debate and government accountability.
