President Mahama Averts Potential Power Crisis, Assures Ghanaians of Uninterrupted Energy Supply
In a reassuring statement, President John Dramani Mahama announced that his administration had successfully averted a looming power crisis that could have severely impacted Ghana’s energy supply. The crisis stemmed from scheduled maintenance on the West African Gas Pipeline, a crucial fuel source for the countryโs thermal plants.
Addressing the nation at the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed ministers at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, President Mahama praised his team for taking swift, proactive measures to prevent power outages.
Proactive Action to Avoid Power Outages
The President explained that the previous administration had failed to ensure the energy sector’s sustainability by neglecting to secure enough fuel for thermal plants. He further detailed that the planned maintenance on the West African Gas Pipeline had created a significant risk of power shortages across the country.
However, under his leadership, the administration acted promptly to resolve the issue. โThrough determined efforts, I can report that we have now averted the looming threat of power outages,โ President Mahama stated. He added that fuel was being delivered to thermal plants in the eastern region well ahead of the pipelineโs shutdown, ensuring a seamless energy supply.
Commending John Jinapor for Effective Leadership
In addition to outlining the success of the energy crisis management, President Mahama commended John Jinapor, the new Minister for Energy, for his dedication and swift action in averting the crisis. Jinaporโs proactive leadership has been instrumental in securing Ghanaโs energy needs and stabilizing the countryโs power supply during a critical period.
A Commitment to a Lean Government
As part of his vision for efficient governance, President Mahama also reiterated his pledge to maintain a lean and effective government. He confirmed that the total number of ministers in his administration would remain at 60, in line with the promise he made during his campaign.
โOnce Parliament approves and swears in the ministers, I will proceed to appoint deputy ministers, ensuring that the total number of ministers remains at 60, as I promised the people of Ghana,โ President Mahama stated, emphasizing his commitment to efficient and transparent governance.
Looking Ahead: A Stable Energy Future
As Ghana navigates the challenges in the energy sector, President Mahamaโs decisive leadership offers hope for a more stable and secure energy future. His government’s efforts to avert a power crisis through careful planning and swift intervention demonstrate a commitment to ensuring an uninterrupted energy supply for businesses and households across the country.
Moving forward, the Presidentโs administration will continue to focus on securing the nationโs energy needs, while maintaining fiscal discipline and a streamlined government to serve the best interests of Ghanaians.
