President John Dramani Mahama has acknowledged the challenge of selecting just 60 ministers from the thousands of CVs submitted by hopeful candidates. Speaking at a Presidential Dinner in Accra on Wednesday, January 8, he emphasized the need to assemble a competent team to deliver on the promises made to Ghanaians.
โI have hit the ground running,โ Mahama stated. โToday, I held several meetings with key multilateral and bilateral partners to address issues like the economy and improving the lives of our people. I expect everyone with a role to play to do the same.โ
He admitted the difficulty of balancing public expectations for a lean government with the overwhelming interest in ministerial roles. โItโs not easy when youโve committed to only 60 ministers, yet thousands of people are submitting their CVs. Some disappointment is inevitable,โ he remarked.
Despite this, Mahama reassured Ghanaians that the administrationโs success depends on collective efforts beyond ministerial appointments. โIf we succeed, it will secure another term, even under a different leader. We must get this right for Ghanaians to trust us.โ
He also urged his team to learn from the previous administration’s mistakes. โGhanaians punished the NPP for arrogance, incompetence, and ignoring their struggles. Thereโs no point in seeking power if weโre going to repeat their errors. Thatโs why Iโm particularly concerned about how we govern,โ Mahama said.
