The Appointments Committee of Parliament is set to commence its vetting process today, Monday, February 24, 2025, to assess President John Mahamaโs nominees for deputy ministerial positions. This crucial step ensures that all appointees meet the necessary qualifications and are fit for their respective roles.
Who is Facing the Vetting Committee Today?
Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, the Minister of State Designate for Public Sector Reforms, will be the first to appear before the committee. Additionally, three deputy ministerial nominees will be vetted today:
- Thomas Nyarko Ampem โ Deputy Minister for Finance
- Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi โ Deputy Minister for Interior
- Sampson Ahi โ Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry
Strict Measures in Place for a Smooth Vetting Process
To maintain order and efficiency during the vetting process, the committee has restricted the number of guests per nominee. According to Alhassan Umar, a committee member and MP for Zabzugu, only 10 guests per nominee will be allowed in the vetting chamber.
โFebruary 24, the Appointments Committee will begin vetting the 14 nominees announced by the President three weeks ago. Four will be vetted on Monday, three on Tuesday, and four on Wednesday. The remaining nominees, initially scheduled for Thursday, will now be vetted on Friday, February 28, due to the Presidentโs State of the Nation Address,โ Umar stated.
