Severe Water Crisis in Klefe Demete: Residents Demand Immediate Government Intervention
Klefe Demete’s Water Crisis: A Community in Distress
Residents of Klefe Demete in the Ho Municipality are facing a dire water crisis, despite being connected to Ghana Water Limited. With dry taps and a broken borehole, many rely on unsafe water sources, raising alarming health concerns.
Residents Struggle as Water Sources Dry Up
Prince Kumah, a resident, expressed frustration:
“The Kpeve Water Processing Plant issues have left us without a regular water supply. Even our community borehole has been broken for years.”
Without access to clean water, daily life has become a challenge. Women and children trek long distances to fetch water, exposing them to potential dangers.
Healthcare at Risk: Taviefe Health Post Overwhelmed
The Taviefe Health Post, serving over 4,000 people, is severely impacted. The lack of clean water compromises hygiene, putting patients and medical staff at risk.
Eunice Kumasi, a public health nurse, shared:
“Sometimes, patients can’t even wash their hands. We’re doing our best, but the situation is critical.”
Unsafe Water Leads to Health Complications
With no reliable supply, residents resort to fetching water from a nearby contaminated stream, leading to widespread health issues.
Victoria Wogblase, a concerned resident, revealed:
“Many of us suffer from eye infections and skin diseases due to unclean water. During dry seasons, we have no choice but to use the polluted stream.”
Urgent Call for Government Action
The community is pleading with authorities to:
✅ Repair the Kpeve Water Processing Plant for consistent supply.
✅ Restore the broken borehole as an alternative source.
✅ Deploy emergency water tankers to support residents and health facilities.
✅ Invest in long-term solutions like water storage and purification systems.
