NDC Urges Vigilance in Ablekuma North: Protecting Democracy and Votes
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its supporters in the Ablekuma North Constituency to remain vigilant and resolute in safeguarding their votes. Amos Blessing Amorse, the Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, emphasized the need for party members to view the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as political adversaries, not friends, in the fight to protect the integrity of the parliamentary election results.
A Call for Vigilance and Self-Defense
Amos Blessing Amorse addressed NDC supporters during a vigil in Ablekuma North on February 9, urging them to be prepared to defend their votes against any form of intimidation or manipulation. His remarks were in response to a one-week ultimatum issued by NPP’s Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, demanding that the Electoral Commission (EC) declare the parliamentary election results for the constituency.
“The police are quiet about Annoh-Dompreh’s outburst. It won’t be an offense if you also defend yourselves,” Amos Blessing stated. He further warned that the NDC would not tolerate any attempts to undermine the will of the people.
NPP’s Ultimatum and NDC’s Response
Frank Annoh-Dompreh’s ultimatum to the EC and his threat to disrupt parliamentary proceedings until the results are announced have heightened tensions in the constituency. In response, the NDC has reaffirmed its commitment to resisting any efforts to alter the election outcome.
Eugene Arnold, the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer, echoed Amos Blessing’s sentiments, vowing that the NDC would use every available means to protect the Ablekuma North seat.
“Annoh-Dompreh, this is a warning to him. The next time he steps foot in Greater Accra to make those unwarranted statements, he will meet us boot for boot. We will not allow this seat to go unattended to. This seat will join our seats in parliament, and Ewurabena Aubynn will be the MP for Ablekuma North,” Arnold declared.
The Importance of Protecting Democratic Processes
The NDC’s message underscores the critical need to protect democratic processes and ensure that election results reflect the true will of the people. Amos Blessing emphasized that the law allows citizens to defend themselves against any form of misconduct, regardless of political affiliations.
“So far as Annoh-Dompreh has charged NPP supporters to assault NDC members, you should know that the law allows you to defend yourselves. If you go home and you see any NPP member, tag them as an enemy and defend yourselves,” he advised.
A Call to Action: Stand Firm for Democracy
The NDC’s leadership has made it clear that they will not back down in their efforts to protect the Ablekuma North seat. They are calling on all party members and supporters to remain united, vigilant, and ready to defend their votes.
