The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified its decision to streamline media access at collation centres during elections, citing past challenges and the need for better management. According to the EC, this arrangement is aimed at ensuring a smooth collation process at both constituency and regional levels.
The commission emphasized that the decision was informed by historical experiences and the operational demands of collation centres. “If not properly managed, these centres can face significant logistical and operational challenges,” a spokesperson explained.
To address these concerns, the EC has decided to limit the number of media outlets at each collation centre to eight, ensuring comprehensive yet manageable coverage. โFor constituencies like Banda, Hohoe, or Bantama, we believe eight media houses are adequate to relay the information effectively,โ the EC representative noted.

This policy is not just about reducing media numbers but about enhancing efficiency across all stakeholders involved in the collation process. The commission highlighted the importance of structured coordination to minimize confusion and maintain order during this critical phase of the electoral process.
While the ECโs decision has sparked debate among media practitioners and stakeholders, the commission maintains that this move will improve operational efficiency and ensure accurate reporting.
