Council of State Must Uphold Its Mandate
The Chairman of the Council of State, Edward Doe Adjaho, has urged members to remain committed to their role as the advisory body to President John Dramani Mahama. Speaking at an orientation session for the Council, Adjaho emphasized the importance of providing sound insights and recommendations that serve the national interest, as mandated by Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution.
“Let us endeavor to put Ghana first. Upholding the law and ensuring genuine care for people must be paramount in our deliberations when we advise the President of the Republic. We must speak the truth to those we advise,” Adjaho stated.
A Call to Serve Ghana, Not Political Elites
Adjaho stressed that the Council’s primary responsibility is to serve the country and its citizens, not the interests of the political elite. He called on members to engage with both leadership and the public, ensuring that policy decisions address the challenges facing Ghana’s democracy.
“Engage leadership and the people. Connect with policy decisions to tackle the challenges facing our democracy. It is the surest way our deliberations at all times can benefit both the government and the Ghanaian public,” he added.
This call to action underscores the Council’s critical role in shaping policies that promote sustainable development and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
The Role of the Council of State in National Development
The Council of State is a key institution in Ghana’s governance structure, providing impartial advice to the President on critical national issues. By prioritizing the national interest, the Council can help bridge the gap between government policies and the needs of the people.
Adjaho’s remarks highlight the importance of transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance. He urged members to remain steadfast in their commitment to these values, ensuring that their advice reflects the aspirations of all Ghanaians.
