Charterhouse Introduces Strict Red Carpet Rules for Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2025
The organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), Charterhouse, have announced a major shake-up for this yearโs red carpet experienceโaccess will now be strictly by invitation.
This new directive, aimed at ensuring better structure and elevated production standards, is a response to growing criticism about the red carpet sessions at previous TGMAs.
Two Red Carpets, One Vision: Order and Exclusivity
According to Charterhouse, the 2025 edition will feature two red carpet formats:
- General Media CarpetโOpen to press and for basic interviews and photoshoots.
- Main Red Carpet (Televised)โStrictlyย reserved for officially invited celebrities and dignitaries.
On the main red carpet, guests will answer the famed โWho are you wearing?โ question and enjoy a curated, high-fashion media spotlight. This will not only enhance the aesthetic quality of the event but also boost the credibility of its media coverage.
โWe are introducing this measure to bring some order and sophistication to the red carpet experience,โ Charterhouse stated.
A History of TGMA Red Carpet Criticism
The TGMA red carpet has long faced backlash for a lack of coordination, poor fashion sense, and questionable celebrity selections. Many insiders in Ghana’s entertainment industry have consistently voiced their dissatisfaction.
Last year, media personality Ola Michael didn’t hold back:
โThis yearโs red carpet looked like a marketplace. Maybe they didnโt plan it, or they got someone unqualified to plan it.โ
Similarly, renowned fashion icon Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), founder of Nineteen57 by KOD, expressed disappointment in a Facebook post:
โFor me, the performers on the night brought their A-game. It was the red carpet that sucked… Weโve seen better in South Africa, Nigeria.โ
These sentiments have made it clear that the TGMA red carpet must evolve to match the prestige of the main awards ceremony.
What to Expect at TGMA 2025
The 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards promises to be a classier, more curated event. With a televised red carpet limited to top-tier personalities, fans and viewers can expect refined fashion statements, professional hosting, and orderly media interactions.
This new red carpet policy could set a new standard for awards events in Ghana and beyond, aligning with best practices seen at top ceremonies like Nigeriaโs Headies Awards or South Africaโs Metro FM Awards.
A Step in the Right Direction?
While some may see the move as exclusive, industry watchers believe itโs a necessary one. By raising the bar, Charterhouse may finally give the TGMA red carpet the glam and gravitas it has long lacked.
