Artist manager and entertainment pundit Bullgod has revealed that his legal team is actively working to ensure Shatta Wale pays the GH₵100,000 legal fee owed following their 2022 defamation case.
The update comes just days after Shatta Wale issued a formal apology for publicly accusing Bullgod of being involved in the murder of Fennec Okyere, the late manager of rapper Kwaw Kese.
A Look Back: Shatta Wale’s 2022 Allegations and Legal Fallout
In November 2022, Shatta Wale made headlines after publicly alleging that Bullgod—real name Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson—had a hand in the 2014 murder of Fennec Okyere. The accusations, widely condemned in the industry, led to a defamation lawsuit filed at the Accra High Court.
Bullgod’s legal team described the accusations as damaging, defamatory, and inappropriate, especially since the murder investigation remained unresolved at the time.
Out-of-Court Settlement: Apology and Legal Fee Agreement
Despite the gravity of the allegations, efforts from key industry stakeholders led to an out-of-court settlement. As part of the resolution, Shatta Wale was required to:
- Publicly retract and apologize for the accusations
- Pay GH₵100,000 in legal fees to Bullgod’s lawyers
On April 30, 2025, Shatta Wale issued his long-awaited public apology, retracting all previous statements and clarifying that his words had been “misunderstood or misconstrued.”
Bullgod Responds: “The Legal Team Is Working to Recover the Fees”
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on May 2, 2025, Bullgod thanked his legal team for helping to resolve the matter amicably. However, he confirmed that the financial terms of the settlement have not yet been fulfilled.
“The original suit was a million Ghana cedis. When Shatta’s legal team came to settle out of court, I asked for two things: an apology and legal fee payment,” Bullgod explained.
He clarified that the agreed GH₵100,000 was solely to cover the costs of his legal defense:
“You will not defame me and expect me to pay my own legal fees. If we’re taking it out of court, the decent thing is for the other party to pay.”
When asked directly if Shatta Wale has paid the amount, Bullgod responded:
“My legal team is working on it. They’re handling it, and I’m sure they’ll sort it out soon.”
What Happens Next?
While the public apology has helped ease tensions, the outstanding legal cost settlement remains a critical issue. Industry observers now watch closely to see if Shatta Wale will follow through with full compliance.
This situation underscores the importance of accountability and professional conduct in Ghana’s entertainment industry. Bullgod’s measured response and reliance on legal procedures may well set a precedent for handling defamation disputes going forward.
