Bawumia Condemns Job Revocations, Calls for Reversal
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly criticized President John Dramani Mahama over the revocation of appointments made after December 7, 2024. In a Facebook post on February 19, Bawumia accused the Mahama-led government of unjustly dismissing legitimately employed Ghanaians, leading to widespread job losses.
“Jobs for All” Promise Contradicted?
Bawumia pointed out the irony in the governmentโs actions, stating:
โIt is ironic that a party which campaigned on the wings of jobs for all Ghanaians is arbitrarily dismissing the same Ghanaians, rendering them jobless.โ

The former Vice President highlighted that these dismissals extend beyond political appointees, affecting public servants who are losing their jobs merely because of their association with the previous administration.
Impact on Critical Sectors
Reports suggest that the government intends to terminate appointments of key personnel, including:
- Security forces
- Nurses and healthcare workers
- Teachers
Bawumia warned that such actions could be detrimental to Ghanaโs development, further exacerbating unemployment and instability.
A Threat to Democracy?
Beyond the dismissals, Bawumia also raised concerns over growing insecurity in Ghana, citing:
- Attacks on journalists
- Military raids on homes of former officials
- Mob violence targeting individuals and state institutions
โThis is rather reminiscent of a military takeover and not a peaceful democratic transition,โ he asserted.
