Guess what, guys? Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has some exciting news to share! He just announced that starting December 1, 2024, kidney dialysis will be free for all patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). How cool is that?
Before making this big announcement, there was a pilot programme that offered free kidney dialysis for patients who were 60 years old and above, as well as those who were under 18. This pilot programme was a success, and now it’s time to expand it to help even more people.
Dr Bawumia shared this exciting news while he was campaigning in the Old Tafo constituency on Sunday, November 10. He talked about how kidney diseases can be tough to deal with and how dialysis can be super expensive. That’s why they started the pilot programme six months ago to see how it would work.
During his speech, Dr. Bawumia said, โMany people suffer from kidney diseases, requiring dialysis, which can be costly and unaffordable for many. Six months ago, we initiated a pilot programme to include dialysis under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Individuals over 60 and under 18 have been receiving free dialysis for the past six months. However, we are now concluding this pilot programme. Starting December 1 of this year, all kidney dialysis patients will be covered for free under the NHIS.โ
The Minister highlighted some important accomplishments of the current government. One of the big wins is the Free Senior High School policy, which has made it easier for students to continue their education without worrying about fees. There have also been many infrastructure projects that have made it easier for people to access education.
The Future Outlook
The Minister is confident that Dr. Bawumia, with his experience and dedication, will be able to keep building on these successes. He believes that Dr. Bawumia will be able to tackle the challenges that still exist in the education system.
