Ahmed Suale Murder: Prime Suspect Faces Court Today

Investigative Journalist’s Murder Case Takes a New Turn

Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the prime suspect in the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, is set to appear before court today, Wednesday, April 2, 2025. His arrest and impending trial mark a significant step in the long-awaited pursuit of justice.

Background: The Assassination of Ahmed Suale

Ahmed Suale, a key investigative journalist with Tiger Eye PI, was tragically gunned down in January 2019 in Madina, Accra. His work, which exposed corruption in Ghanaian politics and sports, earned him both national and international recognition—along with powerful enemies.

    Charges Against Daniel Owusu Koranteng

According to law enforcement sources, Daniel Koranteng, also known as Akwasi Amakye, was allegedly near the crime scene when Suale was ambushed and shot at close range by unidentified assailants.

In addition to the murder charges, Koranteng is accused of betraying Suale’s whereabouts. Reports suggest he allegedly provided Suale’s photographs to a prominent politician, now suspected of having ties to the crime. This revelation has intensified calls for a thorough investigation into the case.

International Reactions and Press Freedom Concerns

Suale’s assassination drew condemnation from international organizations, including Reporters Without Borders and Amnesty International. His murder highlighted the dangers faced by investigative journalists in Ghana and reignited global concerns over press freedom and journalist protection.

Calls for Justice and Press Freedom in Ghana

The Ghanaian media and civil society groups have renewed their calls for justice. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has urged the government to ensure a fair and transparent trial, emphasizing the importance of protecting journalists who expose corruption.

“Ahmed Suale’s murder must not go unpunished,” said the GJA President. “Journalists must be able to work without fear, and we demand full accountability from those responsible for his death.”

Next Steps in the Legal Proceedings

The legal proceedings against Koranteng will determine whether further arrests or charges will be made. Authorities have assured the public that investigations remain active and that no stone will be left unturned.

Stay Informed and Support Press Freedom

Press freedom is a pillar of democracy. Stay updated on this case and support initiatives that protect investigative journalism. If you have any information regarding the case, report to the appropriate authorities or contact Tiger Eye PI for further inquiries.
