Government Cracks Down on Corruption: High-Profile Investigations Underway

The Attorney General has instructed security agencies to commence the interrogation of individuals implicated in corruption investigations, signaling the potential for prosecutions.

Legal Action Initiated Following Government-Led Inquiries

This development follows a comprehensive review of findings from government-led inquiries into financial irregularities, according to Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Speaking on Joy Newsโ€™ Newsfile programme on Saturday, March 1, 2025, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the Attorney General has evaluated the evidence and pinpointed cases that merit legal action. Consequently, security agencies have begun questioning suspects as legal proceedings advance.

โ€œAt least three cases have captured public attention,โ€ Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.

    Key Cases Under Investigation

    1. National Service Scheme (NSS) Scandal

Two individuals, including an accountant and a former deputy executive director, have been taken in for questioning. Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that this process has been conducted lawfully, with no reported rights violations.

    2. Sky Train Project Controversy

Authorities are investigating a $2 million payment made to a company without any tangible evidence of work completed. Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi, board chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), former Minister Joe Ghartey, and other officials have been questioned regarding their roles in the matter.

โ€œThe Attorney General will not pursue a case in court unless there is compelling evidence of wrongdoing,โ€ Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized. โ€œHowever, when there are clear indications of financial loss to the state, investigations must be conducted, and those responsible must be held accountable.โ€

    Suspects on the Run

He also disclosed that some suspects have fled the country, seeking refuge in nations without extradition agreements with Ghana. Efforts are currently underway to ensure their return to face legal proceedings.

    Government’s Commitment to Accountability

This directive from the Attorney General represents the latest move in the governmentโ€™s ongoing anti-corruption campaign, with several high-profile prosecutions anticipated in the coming months.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated the Mahama administrationโ€™s unwavering commitment to ensuring accountability among public officials.

โ€œThe wheels of justice may turn slowly, but they turn efficiently,โ€ he affirmed.
