Celebrated Ghanaian rapper Kojo Cue has finally broken his silence about his two-year break from music, revealing that he stepped away from the spotlight in 2021 to deal with mental health challenges and personal issues that weighed heavily on him.
In a candid and emotional interview with ZionFelix on April 16, 2025, the “Lavender” hitmaker shared the reasons behind his sudden disappearance from the vibrant Ghanaian music scene at a time when he was thriving alongside artists like E.L., Joey B., Lil Shaker, and others.
“I Had to Stop to Heal”: Why Kojo Cue Walked Away from Music
Speaking honestly and vulnerably, Kojo Cue disclosed that he decided to quit music at the end of 2021, after grappling with overwhelming personal circumstances that left him mentally and emotionally drained.
“From the end of 2021, I had stopped making music. For almost two years, I didn’t make music at all. I even gave away my studio equipment,” he revealed.
The rapper attributed his break to events dating back to 2020, which he says deeply affected him.
“It was more of my personal life. Some things happened in 2020, and dealing with them did not go as I wanted. My mind and focus were not on music,” he said, adding that mental health was the core reason he decided to pause his music career.
Detoxing From the Noise: A Complete Social Media Break
As his emotional and mental burdens intensified, Kojo Cue made the difficult decision to withdraw from social media as well—a move many public figures fear due to its impact on visibility and relevance.
“It got to a point I even stopped being on social media. For almost 6 to 7 months, I deleted all the apps and didn’t visit any platforms,” he said.
Instead of staying online, Kojo turned to real-world connections, believing offline conversations offered more healing and perspective than digital engagement.
“I needed to interact with people because the narrative on social media is different when you speak to people face-to-face,” he added.
Still Building Behind the Scenes: A Music Marketing Dream
Although he wasn’t creating music during his hiatus, Kojo Cue was far from idle. Together with close friends, he focused his energy on building a music marketing company—a vision that was born during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.
“In 2020, during COVID, we formed a music marketing company. We planned to help Ghanaian artists expand their reach,” he explained.
The team worked behind the scenes, offering services like streaming optimization, music PR, and digital marketing, often for free in the early days.
“The first three people we started with, we didn’t even charge them. We just wanted to help.”
This behind-the-scenes work kept Kojo connected to the music industry, even as he stayed away from the spotlight.
