Six Injured in Gomoa Obuasi Chieftaincy Dispute
A violentย chieftaincy clashย inย Gomoa Obuasi, Central Region, has left six people injured, includingย Agya Amoh, the head of theย Asona Royal Family. The incident occurred when a youth group supporting one faction attacked their rivals during a community meeting, causing significant property damage.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers hurled stones, damaging the palace roof and two vehicles. The clash has heightened tensions in the area, with fears of further violence looming.
Root Cause of the Conflict
The conflict stems from a dispute over leadership in Gomoa Obuasi. Theย Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council,ย Obrempong Nyanful Krampah, appointedย Kwabena Attaย as caretaker chief following the death of the substantive chief. However, the townโs regent has refused to hand over power to the caretaker chief, sparking ongoing confrontations.
Nana Mbir Asomako, a key figure in the community, explained, โWe were waiting to have a meeting when suddenly, we saw stones flying through the air from outside at around 9 to 10 a.m. Several roofs of the palace have been destroyed, including two vehicles.โ
Fear and Tension Grip the Community
The attackers reportedly declared that they did not fear the police and vowed to continue their campaign of terror. This brazen attitude has left residents fearful for their safety.
โThey claim they do not fear the police and will continue to terrorize us. We had indications that they were planning to burn the entire place down, so we decided to leave the palace. The police have been duly informed,โ Nana Mbir Asomako added.
