President Mahama Ends Tenures of Statutory Board Members Following Assumption of Office
The Office of the President has officially announced the cessation of board memberships for statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils as part of the transition to President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
This directive aligns with the Presidential (Transition) Act, of 2012 (Act 845), which governs such processes during a change in government.
In a statement issued by Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, it was clarified that individuals appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or former Ministers of State ceased to hold office as of January 7, 2025, the day President Mahama was sworn in.
Reconstitution of Boards to Follow Legal Framework
The statement highlighted that the reconstitution of affected boards, commissions, councils, and statutory corporations will be carried out in line with their respective enabling laws.
โFor the avoidance of doubt, this excludes commissions that are independent constitutional creations,โ the statement specified, ensuring clarity regarding the status of such bodies.
Gratitude to Outgoing Members
President Mahama extended heartfelt appreciation to all outgoing board members for their dedication and service to the nation. He wished them success in their future endeavours, acknowledging their contributions to national development.
Interim Guidance for Statutory Bodies
Until the reconstitution of new boards, the management of these statutory bodies has been instructed to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before making any major decisions. This measure ensures smooth operations and accountability during the transition period.
A Step Toward Governance Continuity
This announcement marks a significant step in ensuring a seamless transition of power, as President Mahama begins his tenure with a focus on upholding the rule of law and reinforcing governance structures. The reconstitution of these boards is expected to reflect the administration’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and national progress.
