NIB Director Returns Illegally Acquired State Land Voluntarily
The Director of the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, has voluntarily returned a parcel of state land he had unlawfully acquired. The decision was revealed by private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu during an interview with Channel One News’ Hanson Agyemang.
Land Located in Prime Accra Area
The returned parcel is situated in the agri-mechanisation lands area, directly opposite the El Wak Stadium in Accra. Martin Kpebu highlighted irregularities surrounding the rezoning of this state land, describing the process as fundamentally flawed.
Rezoning Process Under Scrutiny
“The rezoning was illegal,” Martin Kpebu stated, adding that the necessary legal procedures were bypassed. According to him, checks with Town and Country Planning revealed that the rezoning was done without parliamentary approval, making it illegitimate. Consequently, beneficiaries of the land have not legally acquired their parcels.
Collaboration with Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL)
The NIB Director communicated his decision to relinquish the land directly to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, chairman of the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative. The move aligns with ORAL’s mission to recover state assets unlawfully taken by individuals, particularly during previous administrations.
ORAL’s Mission to Restore Accountability
Established on December 18, 2024, by President John Dramani Mahama, ORAL is a five-member task force led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Its mandate is to recover unlawfully acquired state properties and restore public confidence in the management of government assets.
This case serves as a milestone in ORAL’s efforts to ensure accountability, highlighting the importance of transparency in the management of state resources.
