Be Cautious with Bawumia’s Promises, NDC’s Elvis Afriyie Ankrah Warns Ghanaians
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a key member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto Committee, has cautioned Ghanaians against fully trusting the campaign promises made by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate. Speaking during an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Ankrah questioned the viability of Bawumia’s major proposals, including:
- Implementing a flat tax rate.
- Eliminating the contentious e-levy.
- Enhancing public financial accountability.
- Significantly expanding the nation’s road infrastructure.
A Record of Unfulfilled Promises?
Ankrah argued that Bawumia’s track record of unkept commitments during his tenure as Vice President should prompt scepticism. He pointed to what he described as “a litany of unfulfilled promises” made by Bawumia and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, urging Ghanaians to critically examine any new assurances.
“You believe Bawumia at your own risk,” Ankrah stated, highlighting the potential danger of accepting the proposals without scrutiny. He added, “This is somebody who has consistently made promises and has not been able to fulfill them.”

A Call for Accountability
Afriyie Ankrah implored voters to demand transparency and feasibility from political candidates. He dismissed Bawumia’s ability to deliver on his campaign pledges, arguing that his history in government provides little evidence to suggest otherwise.
